Through an in-depth renovation process, SWD Architects brought new life to the historic city hall building and police garage in Kansas City, Kansas. Previously known as the Kansas City, Kansas City Hall and Fire Headquarters, this complex features the 1911 city hall building and adjoining it, the 1930 fire headquarters building that is still in use to this day. The dignified limestone, brick, and terra cotta city hall building was converted to apartments in 2004 after sitting vacant for numerous years. SWD Architects was commissioned to oversee a faithful renovation of the original city hall building and nearby 1961 Kansas City, Kansas police department parking garage. Through this renovation process, these refurbished buildings will continue to provide an affordable place for new residents in the heart of downtown Kansas City, Kansas for years to come.
