Built 1939 | Historic Renovation & Adaptive Reuse to Low Income Senior Apartments
Originally constructed in 1939, the Washington Historic Residences is a historic renovation and adaptive reuse of a former public elementary school. The school had been in continuous operation right up until the year before this historic renovation had begun. Many of the former students are happy to now call it their home.

SWD Architects developed an adaptive reuse design for 26 new apartments that maintains the individual classrooms within the original school. The design preserves the original historic chalkboards and built-in cabinets within each classroom while also incorporating new modern apartment amenities.
